El Salvador is without a doubt one of the most consistent surfing places in the world.

Sunzal because of its location gets both north and south swells and is normally bigger in size than all the other breaks in the country.

At Sunzal we have surfable waves all year round, but the surf can be segmented into three different wave seasons.

1- From February to May is probably the best period to enjoy very clean big waves, storm season is starting in the south pacific and the weather is very stable in El Salvador, this translates into perfect and consistent waves in our coastline. During this period we get many days when conditions are great to surf all day long.

2- From June to October we still get big surf from the winter in the south pacific, however our rainy season is in full force, which produces big storms almost every night causing choppy and muddy surf in the early hours of the morning. During this period the best surf normally happens between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.

3- November and December is more inconsistent, but when the waves arrive they are simply perfect. The weather in El Salvador during those months is much cooler than normal producing great offshore winds that cause perfect surfing conditions all day long. The water at Sunzal becomes crystal clear creating good conditions for snorqueling right in front of the hotel.

January is probably the only moth of the year that surf becomes very inconsistent and the waves are small, however the climate is perfect with cool evenings and bright sunny days.

When planning a surfing trip to El Salvador, we recommend that you choose those weeks when the moon is going from new to full. In our 30 years of experience surfing here we have noticed that the probabilities of getting a good swell on a rising moon are much greater than during a falling moon.
