Start your day by exploring El Centro, the heart of the city. Within it are some of the country’s most exquisite churches, plazas & monuments. Including the Metropolitan Cathedral, home to the work of Fernando Llort, El Salvador’s most famous painter & the final resting place of Archbishop Oscar Romero.

From there we will take you to a Museum of your choice depending on your personal interest. Chose from a selection of Art, History and War Museums.

Before heading up to Puerta del Diablo, a truly spectacular geological phenomenon where you will have breathtaking views of the city & lake Ilopango. You will need some lunch, we recommend a selection of restaurants so if you let us know what you have a hankering for and we will know the place.

Archaeological Parks

Step back in time and learn the history of El Salvador’s ruins. Founded between 1200 and 400 BC the towns of San Anders, Tazumal, Casa Blanca & Joya de Ceren early history remains buried beneath several meters of volcanic ash produced by the 260 AD eruption of Ilopango.

Today you will find cities constructed in typical Mayan style, except for in Joya de Ceren a modest village that was frozen in time by the 640 AD Laguna de Caldera; discovered in 1976 when the government broke ground to build a new grain storage facility.

Each site also has a museum and refreshments; lunch will be taken outside of the ruins at one of the nearby restaurants.

The drive alone is reason enough to make this trip. Littered with cool mountain towns each one different from the next, each with it’s own special charm.

Spend a day exploring the towns and meeting the people of Juayua and Ataco. Sample the local delicacies, buy delightful handicrafts and pose for some picture perfect spots.

After all the sightseeing there is a good chance you will be a little sore, what better way to relax those aching muscles that in the healing waters of hot thermal springs. If you would like to visit the hot springs please le us know before so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
